How does myGallerist curation work?
Every image uploaded to the site is reviewed. 1)If the image appears to be a work of particular merit it is coded for "curator's selection" on the app. 2)On the other hand, if, in the curator's opinion, an image should be viewed as a good example of the artist's work then it is then coded for "curator's recommended viewing" on the app. 3)If the image is not picked by the curators, this piece can always be viewed when the mobile user leaves the curators' preferences unchecked (in your app's art preferences) or the the artist's name can be used to search and navigate to his/her app-site where their images may be viewed.
Please note that it may take up to 5 days for a newly uploaded image of artwork to be juried by our curators. The curators may change works from "Selected" to "Recommended" and back at their discretion.
How is artwork sold on myGallerist?
myGallerist is mainly a "connection / promotion project", and not focused on sales. But the sales that do occur happen in the traditional way: private emails back and forth between artist and collector or dealer and collector, and maybe sending the piece out on approval (with credit card#). But myGallerist is not involed in these transactions unless the artist elects to have myGallerist handle a partiular work. In that case we would handle the entire process for a 25% commission. Why do the images have to be between 250kb and 2.5mb?
For high resolution purposes: Mobile devices permit multi-touch enlargement so users will be able to zoom-in and see considerable detail in the work. Also, especially for tablets with 10" screens, the resolution will be very high quality at that size since all images are resized to 1024 pixels on the largest dimension -- keeping the original proportions. So the images don't need to be above 2.5mg. Below 250kb the quality starts to degrade.
Can any kind of artwork go on the app?
Yes. Any work that can be represented in image, video or audio media.
Are my images secure on your servers?
Yes. All images are stored on Amazon Web Service cloud servers which are considered amoung the safest in the indusry.
How can you be sure to jury a work fairly from just an image?
This is a good question. It's not easy without a lot of practice. Scale, surface, intensity of color missed in photgraphy - can all play a part in the impact of a work seen "in the flesh". After having spent almost 2 decades looking at images of art, first slide then computer screen -- it is possible to interprelate and make a very good guess about the quality of the work.
Can I upgrade from Artist Full to Premium Edition membership at a discount?
Yes, you can upgrade at any time. And your year membership begins with the date of the upgrade.
How many images can be uploaded to the site?
For the Artist Full membership you may upload a maximum of 100 images of (only) your work with 18 of them available to view in the app at any given time. The Premium Edition membership (for galleries, artists reps and artists with large inventories) there is no limit on # of images uploaded nor
# of images shown in app.
What does it mean when I assign an email address as "sale/contact" representative?
It means when an app user wants to contact someone for general information about the artist or sales of individual artworks, they press a button and an inquiry email (from them) will automatically go to the email address you have indicated. But you may input only your email OR the the email of the gallery, artist representative or art consultant that, in fact, represents you. It is completely up to you what "sale/contact" email to indicate for each work. If you have no representation for a particular piece you may check the box that says "Check to have myGallerist represent this work" on the Edit page. Repesentation can be a touchy subject in the art world and myGallerist wants you to have flexible options.
